Kent State Folk Festival Monday, November 12, 2007 There is still time to see and hear the Kent State Folk Festival through November 17. Can't make it? What's Shakin' in the Square Friday, October 26, 2007 Shaker Square was built in the late 1920s as the neighboring city of Shaker Heights developed. It's the oldest shopping district in Ohio and the second-oldest in the nation; in 1976 the square was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For all its historical significance and American Colonial charm, the Square has sometimes suffered from a bit of an identity crisis. Once intended as a shopping destination for well-heeled suburbanites, the Square now offers two distinct identities: a busy hub of shops and services during the day, and a nighttime entertainment district known for distinctive restaurants.
