Time Change! Friday, December 7, 2007 Did you catch Thursday's episode? Don't worry, you still have time to watch on Saturday at 11:00pm on PBS 45 & 49 and on Sunday at 8:30pm on ONN. *Please note the time change due to PBS 45 & 49's fund drive.* In this week's episode, we talk with Marc Nathanson of New Life Community, which is doing great things for Cleveland's homeless families. They provide short-term transitional housing along with classes that teach money management, parenting, and job hunting. New Life Community is also the recipient of one of Northern Ohio Live's Awards of Achievement this past September. Once you watch this week's episode, you can see New Life Community's acceptance speech and another interview with Marc here. Also featured in this week's episode is the Cleveland Arts Prize. This organization is great for Cleveland in that it brings attention to those creative people who have made a difference in our region and beyond. Anyone can nominate a creative artist in Northeast Ohio through February 28 at www.clevelandartsprize.org. Some of the winners in 2007 include Brendan Ring, owner of Nighttown, Cindy Barber, owner of Beachland Ballroom, Eric Coble, as an emerging artist in the category of literature, and Christopher Pekoc, in the category of visual arts. Kent State Folk Festival Monday, November 12, 2007 There is still time to see and hear the Kent State Folk Festival through November 17. Can't make it? Check out our video from Episode Six featuring WKSU's Bob Burford and Folk Alley 'Round Town musician Ryan Humbert. The Ryan Humbert Band will be performing at Ray's Place, along with many other artists at local venues such as Riverside Wine & Imports, Susan's Coffee and Tea, and Water Street Tavern on Friday, November 16. What's Shakin' in the Square Friday, October 26, 2007 Shaker Square was built in the late 1920s as the neighboring city of Shaker Heights developed. It's the oldest shopping district in Ohio and the second-oldest in the nation; in 1976 the square was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. For all its historical significance and American Colonial charm, the Square has sometimes suffered from a bit of an identity crisis. Once intended as a shopping destination for well-heeled suburbanites, the Square now offers two distinct identities: a busy hub of shops and services during the day, and a nighttime entertainment district known for distinctive restaurants.
